The NT Stolen Wages Class Action has been agreed by the Commonwealth Government.
Anyone with family who worked for zero or small wages in the Northern Territory might be eligible for a settlement.
If you are eligible and you do not sign up for the settlement by August, you will lose your rights.
CLC is not involved in the class action at all.
Why do you need to register for the settlement?
If you are part of the class action and want to get a payment from the settlement, you need to register by 31 August 2025. If you haven’t registered with Shine Lawyers already, or registered for your deceased
spouse or deceased parents, or you aren’t sure if you have registered, you should complete, sign and send a registration form in by 31 August 2025.
You are part of the class action and able to register if:
(a) you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person;
(b) you were born before 12 November 1961; and
(c) you worked in the Northern Territory between 1 June 1933 and 12 November 1971 for little or no wages;
OR
(d) you are the spouse (married or de facto) or child of a person who fits the description in A, B and C
above and has since passed away.
If you don’t want to claim compensation, you don’t need to do anything. But you will still be part of the
case, and you will lose your legal rights and claims if the settlement is approved.
