Walungurru Rangers

The Kintore-based Walungurru Rangers look after the western half of the Haasts Bluff Aboriginal Land Trust and are one of our newest ranger groups.

In 2020 the group’s traditional owner ranger advisory committee decided on the group’s name and distinctive tjapu-tjapu (black-faced wood swallow) logo based on a design by local resident James Brown. The bird features an important dreaming story related to the Kintore rock.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the group has grown in both numbers and skill, cleaning rock holes, absorbing men’s stories for Karkururintja (Lake Macdonald) and undertaking prescribed burns with other ranger teams in the Southern Tanami Indigenous Protected Area.
