“I am proud of the handback of Uluru and the closure of the climb, and really proud of the work for Uti Kulintjaku.

“I want to talk up strong for my country, to look after young people and teach them to learn culture. I will keep doing this work so that this knowledge passes through the generations.”

Thaddeus Mitchell

Kaltukatjara (Docker River)
Languages: TBC

“My family wanted me to be part of the CLC.

I’m all about helping people especially young people. I want to help a lot of families in Docker River to go out and live in the homelands. We have more than three homelands out in Docker River. There are only tin old sheds there at the moment.

I’m part of a man’s group and also a band. I love teaching the young fellows how to play music and getting involved in music.

I take them out and talk about drugs and alcohol how they can affect our community. Keep them busy on something else rather than drinking and smoking.”

Jacob Carrol

Utju (Areyonga)
Languages: Pitjantjara and English

Worked for the now defunct community councils and the MacDonnell Regional Council in Kaltukatjara and Utju since the 1990s, such as rubbish removal, grave digging and supplying fire wood for the aged care. Also protected rock holes from camels with the CLC’s land management team.

“I want to get improvements to our roads. We used to fix potholes with gravel, but now we don’t get help from the shire. We need support from the shire to get work. We need our white cards so we can do the work.

“Our young people need jobs. I’m going to talk up for this on the council.”

Lillian Inkamala

Imanpa (Mount Ebenezer)
Languages: Luritja, Pitjantjatjara and English

Former Anangu Downs Ranger.

“I would like to see more support for homelands and ranger programs so that we can look after country.”

“My parents used to go to land council meetings. When I was 15 or 16 my family got some land at Perentie Bore, to stay away from the roadhouse. That’s where they built Imanpa. Growing up my family – five children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild – is one of my best achievements.”
